Burris MTAC 1.5 - 6x subtensions clarified

Last week I mentioned that I was not sure about the posted subtensions on Burris' website.  I did get a response from Ryan Williams in their tech support department concerning the Ballistic CQ subtensions diagram posted for both models:

"The reticle for the 1.5x6 is a little bit bigger and yes it would be calibrated at 6 power, the subtensions are the same"

So there you have it.  I was correct in my speculation that the reticle was just sized differently so that both worked out to be the same subtensions at each model's respective maximum magnification.

Some of you may be shaking your head and thinking, "Duh!".  Some of this stuff is new for me though and I know I have seen others on the web trying to figure it out as well.  I hope this helps them if they are searching for answers.

Burris MTAC 1.5 - 6x Arrived!

Sorry for the late posting this week.  With the newborn around, I'm a little out of sorts when it comes to my routine.  I got my new Burris MTAC 1.5 - 6x this week.  First impressions are that I like the generous eye relief and the reticle is pretty simple.  My only concern was that the illumination was not as bright as I had hoped in daylight.  However, I was prepared for that since others had mentioned it in their evaluations and reviews.

I also ordered a Burris P.E.P.R. mount for it.  I normally would have gone with a LaRue SPR-E, but I didn't want to drop the coin until I'm for sure satisfied with the actual optic.  I can always replace the P.E.P.R. later and relegate it to my .22LR AR.  And, in case anyone remembers my post about the .22LR trainer, there hasn't been a whole lot of progress.  I did pick up a Bushnell TRS- 25 for it.  I'm actually really happy with it.  I may do a post on it at some point.

The one thing I'm itching to figure out is whether or not the subtensions listed on the Burris website apply to both the 1 - 4x and 1.5 - 6x.  I suppose the overall size of the Ballistic CQ reticle could be different in the two models and thus it works out that it has the same subtensions at their respective max magnification.  I can also find out once I get out to the range and set up an 18 inch wide target, crank it up to 6x and then see if the reticle matches the 18 inch subtension.  Still, it would be nice for some clarification from Burris.  I did fire off an email to them, but nothing yet.

I'll definitely be covering the optic in a future post once I get some range time with it.  Hopefully, that will be soon although May is not looking too promising schedule wise.

If you happen to know the answer to my subtension questions, then please feel free to comment below.

Baby Preps

It's not even been two weeks since our little girl made her appearance.  It got me to thinking about preparations and just general planning for an infant/toddler when it comes to the needs of having children.  Obviously, food, clothing, etc.  I'll admit I am behind the curve on this one.  We plan on doing cloth diapers once she grows a little more.  The wife is breast feeding which helps cut down on the need for formula (although we have been having to supplement).  I have even started thinking of her financial future by looking into IRA's.  I am sure there are lists of "baby preps", but I would love to hear from others what "needed" items they suggest to have on hand.  I will probably do another post once I have a better grasp on what we truly need and what is out there.

Please comment below and help me out!

Quick Hit - Ft. Hood Madness Part Deux

No real subject this week due to a certain little baby girl entering the world.  :)

However, I did see Ft. Hood has had another traitorous piece of shit kill and wound servicemen and women and then took the coward's way out and killed himself.  When the hell are we going to let our troops tool up on their own home turf?  Gun Free Zones = Target Rich Environment.  It was unacceptable the first time at Ft. Hood, it's been unacceptable in all of the high fatality count rampages and I fear it will not be changing anytime soon if "progressives" have their way.

Thoughts and prayers go out to all those affected.
